To Quote For The Win

This Crown Is Available In Amazon

In a search or a pageant , Q and A, or shall I say Question and Answer portion is always present and is very important.

Other portion may be omitted but not this one as this is the last part of the quest to win the crown or title. Perhaps, Q and A is the determinant of who shall win in the competition regardless of the long process, and no matter who is the most appealing contestant from the very start to the middle of the contest.

The contestant must stand out to the main portion Q and A , because if not, beauty alone won't make him or her win. This is always the case if the competition is back to zero after choosing the top 5 or top 3 candidates. Therefore, it implies to the genuineness of the saying, "What is beauty if the brain is empty."

So, what does it take to win the Q and A?

Perhaps, one could say that as long as the answer is sincere and concise, it's a sure win. However, there's a problem when other finalists had  very good answers too, thus leading to a high probability that judges would be having this hard time to decide who really nailed it. Meaning to say, a contestant with the desire to really win this portion must outshine the others through his or her answer.

The question is, how to win the Q and A in the Philippines?

Perhaps, the answer of the contestant can be enhance when he or she quotes . And, to quote is to borrow passage or lines from someone with good reputation to the society.

What's with the "quote factor" ? Personally, when a contestant quotes as inclusion to the answer of the question, it impresses the mass for a sharp memory. It appeals the audience with the ability to memorize, especially if it's a very long passage and stated spontaneously. But, not too long. The contest will be an oration if that's the case. Definitely, it can be considered as a strategy. Inspite of that, it's risky to do it and there are some things needed to consider.

Rhinestone for Pageant
Firstly, when including a passage as addition to the answer, it must have an authentic source. For instance, the contestant just learned that to quote is the chance to win Q and A, and he or she's in the final three, and will do anything just to quote for the win.  Let's say the question goes this way.

"For you, what is the meaning of help?"
ANS:    "Thank you for that wonderful question." The contestant began to answer. "For me, help is not just an action word as it needs an action. Such action that will benefit not just my neighbor but the     whole community. And to help, is to give all the things you have     regardless of how precious these are to you. It sounds difficult to do but not for me, as I live in the words of the Indian philosopher     Kashim Balimtataga who just said, 'To help others has no condition.' That's  all, thank you."

Wow, the whole audience and the judges clamored with the answer and eventually made the contestant won the title. But, if you're the contestant, will you able to sleep knowing that you just invented Kashim Balimtataga? Perhaps, it will test your credibility and integrity as person.

However, to invent quote of an imaginary person that will make you win has a high probability to happen in a contest. Remember, the judges are just human being that can be fooled. It's more likely that they don't know who and what are you're talking about in regards with the borrowed lines you used. They can be influenced by the applause of the audience in the studio, thus, giving you as the contestant the highest score.

Nevertheless, I am not encouraging to use an imaginary quote. Use a quote or lines from a genuine source.

Another thing is that, in using quote, consider the person who said that. Most likely, it has a great impact to use quote from prominent people who are very influential. Quotes from late presidents, saints, philosophers etc. can be persuasive.

On the other hand,  to use quote from an average person you only knew, is not a good thing.

For instance, the question goes this way,

"For you, what makes you special?"
ANS:   "Thank you for that beautiful question." (This time it's beautiful not wonderful.) "For me, I am special because we are all special in our own ways. And I always believe to what mama said, "When you  grow up, you'll be a superstar."

Definitely, you'll lose with this answer, as you only quoted from your own mother. The hell they care about your mother, although I know you really care.

To quote lines from song lyrics is too risky.  Instead of convincing the audience with the answer, it might sound hilarious and turns to be unconvincing.

For instance, the question goes this way,

"Is there something you need to change to youself in any aspect?       Yes or No? and Why?
ANS:    "Thank you for that one of a kind question." (This time it's one of a kind not beautiful nor wonderful.) "It's definitely no to that question. I love myself for what I am right now. If there's something  that I had to change to myself, then I may not be here in this competition right now because what is the original me brought me here and just like Lady Gaga said, ' I was born this way hey, I was born this way hey, I'm on the right track baby I was born this way hey.' Thank you."

For some it might be convincing but I doubt for others who also thought it's quite funny.

I include videos from two separate beauty contest with the usage of borrowed lines.

Notice that she borrowed passage from Philippine Constitution, I think. See? This is one example I told you earlier that neither I nor the judges know about the quote. She's a wildcard who amazingly won the title. Superb!

If GMA has it, ABS CBN has it too. The first contest for lesbians in It's Showtime , That's My Tomboy showcases these beautiful and gorgeous ladies. Her-her, that's her nickname won the grand final and she quoted from Blessed Arnold Janssen. I don't know Blessed Arnold Janssen.
